The school I work at does a monthly Family Reading Night. We are trying to get more parents to read with their kids and also try to spark the kids’ interests in reading. This month we have decided to tie our Family Reading Night to Dr. Seuss. We are holding the event on the same night as the PTA meeting and Book fair, hoping to get more families involved. Each event has its own time slot so everyone is able to attend all three.
My grade level in particular is focusing on The Cat in the Hat. We will read the story, make Thing 1/Thing 2 crafts and enjoy some Thing 1/Thing 2 cupcakes.
I am ordering Dr. Seuss Bookmarks and Stickers from Anderson’s for the student to take home with them. The students love to have that extra treat to remember the night. I really hope that by focusing on one theme for the night it will draw more parents in and also encourage them to spread the word so we have a great turn out in the future!
